I guess I get to post the update this morning.

It was a fun night for me - mainly because I was able to sleep pretty good yesterday. It is rather hard to teach your body to sleep during the day.... When I arrived to begin the night (with a few Krispy Kreme's for the gang) Kelly and Niki had already taken a run or two down the beach. On my first pass, I spotted our star turtle of the season! Rhoda was just about finished nesting when I came across her on the north end of the survey area. It is the third time we have observed her! A small group of kids were near the turtle and were suprised when they approached the turtle to see how large she was. They were following all the rules by staying away from her until I allowed them to get close. Leatherbacks are an endangered species and state and federal laws protect them when on the beach. If you encounter a live sea turtle on the beach, be sure to stay well behind her and observe from a distance.
