Last night was quite a busy night - for people! The beach on Saturday nights in the summer here can be a very popular place for groups of people looking to get out of the air conditioning for the evening. I started counting the number of people walking with flashlights looking for turtles, but stopped at over 16. Some people just don't get it! Flashlights are not legal to shine on the beach at night and even if they were, the turtles turn around instantly and head for the water as soon as they see the light. Out of 90 loggerhead crawls counted this morning, only 20 were successful nests.
It was a beautiful dark night otherwise the stars and bugs were spectacular!

No leatherbacks to report. Last night almost the entire NMFS southeast sea turtle team was out here with us waiting for Delphinia to return to nest. She did not nest on Friday night and we thought that she would return and would have been a great candidate for a PAT transmitter. Maybe tonight??
